8 common Discovery+ problems and how to fix them

Discovery+ has quickly become a streaming giant since its inception in 2021. As a subscriber, you may experience issues with the Discovery+ app on your TV, desktop, or mobile device. Here’s how to fix the most common Discovery+ errors.

1. DRM Error Message

You may receive a DRM error message while using the Discovery+ app if the content you are trying to watch is not available in your country, you are using an older device to stream or your HDMI connection is broken.

Follow these steps to resolve this error message:

  1. Turn off your device.
  2. If you’re streaming on a TV, disconnect the HDMI cable from both your device and the TV.
  3. Turn on your device.
  4. Plug your HDMI cable back into your streaming device and TV.
  5. Open the Discovery+ app again and try to play the desired content again.

2. AVFoundationErrorDomain-11819 Error on Apple Devices

The AVFoundationErrorDomain-11819 is an error specific to iOS devices, including Apple TV. To fix this problem, you need to clear the error from the system by refreshing the device.

If you get this error on an Apple TV, you need to restart the device. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your Apple device.
  2. Unplug your Apple TV, as well as the television and power source it’s connected to.
  3. Leave the devices disconnected for at least two minutes.
  4. Reconnect your Apple TV.
  5. Turn your streaming device back on.
  6. Open your Discovery+ app again and try to play the content again.

Likewise, if you are experiencing these issues on an iPhone or iPad, you should restart your device. To do this:

  1. Press and hold the side button and one volume button at the same time until the power off slider appears.
  2. Turn off your device.
  3. Leave the device turned off for at least ten seconds.
  4. Turn your device back on by pressing the sleep/wake button.
  5. Open the Discovery+ app again and try to play the content again.

3. Problems Playing Videos on Android Devices

Problems playing videos on Android devices may appear with the message ‘Sorry, there seems to be a technical problem’.

If you’re getting this message on your Android device, it’s most likely a problem with the vivid color effect or video enhancement settings. To fix this problem, you need to disable these settings. To do this:

  1. Close the Discovery+ app.
  2. Go to video settings on your device.
  3. Disable video enhancer and vivid color effect.
  4. Restart the Discovery+ app and try to play the content again.

4. Shows are not saved to my list

If you’re having trouble finding your programs or saving new programs to the My List section on Discovery+, follow these steps:

  1. Confirm you are on your profile.
  2. Close the Discovery+ app.
  3. If you’re using a web browser, Android device, Fire TV Stick, or Roku, clear the device’s data and cache.
  4. Open the Discovery+ app again and try adding shows to the My List section again.

If you are using a Roku streaming device, you can also try uninstalling Discovery+ again and downloading it to your Roku.

5. Internet Connection Problems

What happens if you want to watch CNN Originals on Discovery+, or if you just want to watch your other favorite shows but don’t have an internet connection? If you are having problems with the internet connection with your streaming device, it is recommended that you check internet activity on another device.

If it works fine on another device but not on your streaming device, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Close Discovery+ on your device or web browser.
  2. If you’re using a web browser, Android device, Fire TV Stick, or Roku, clear the device’s data and cache.
  3. Open the app or browser again and try streaming again.

If this does not resolve the situation, please contact Discovery Customer Support with information about your streaming device, the installed app version, and the current system installed on your device.

6. “Too many streams” error

Discovery+ allows four simultaneous streams per account. If you try to exceed this number, you will get an error message Too many streams.

To start a new stream on your device, stop using Discovery+ on any of your other current streams and click play on the desired device.

7. The Discovery+ app keeps crashing

If you’re having issues with the Discovery+ app not loading or constantly crashing, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Close the web browser or app.
  2. If you’re using a web browser, Android device, Fire TV Stick, or Roku, clear the device’s data and cache.
  3. Open the app or web page again and try to play the content again.

This procedure should also be followed if the app crashes repeatedly during commercial breaks.

8. Buffering, Freezing and Black Screen Issues

Since Discovery uses bitrate streaming, the quality of your playback experience will depend on your internet connection. If you’ve verified a healthy Wi-Fi connection and are still having playback issues, follow these steps:

  1. Log out and back in to your Discovery+ account.
  2. Close the app.
  3. Turn off your streaming device.
  4. Restart your internet modem and router.
  5. Turn your streaming device back on.
  6. Open the Discovery+ app again and try viewing the content again.

It is important to note that if you are experiencing buffering, freezing, black screens, or blurry video quality, it could be due to a number of other issues.

If the above procedure does not fix the problem, then you should consider other causes of the problem.

Common causes for these issues on Android devices are video enhancers or vivid color settings. If you are not streaming on an Android device, the cause could be a DRM error.

In either case, please refer to the settlement procedure described in the paragraphs above.
