florida vs. Tennessee: Forecast, Choice, Spread, Football Match Odds, Live Stream, Watch Online, TV Channel

Florida has defeated Tennessee 16 of the last 17 teams they have played. When the No. 20 Gators travel Saturday in the SEC on CBS Game of the Week against the No. 11 Volunteers, they will be double-digit underdogs for the first time in the series’ history. Tennessee starts 3-0 in Year 2 under coach Josh Heupel, but if it is to keep up the momentum it will have to exorcise the demons of past seasons and provide a Florida team that has already seen its share of ups and downs .

The Gators kicked off the season with a bang through then-No. 7 Utah 29-26 on the debut of freshman coach Billy Napier. But after Florida rose to No. 12 in the wake of that win, Florida lost 26-16 at home to No. 8 Kentucky the following week, before taking a 31-28 win over South Florida in Week 3.

Which version of Florida will appear in a sold-out Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee is a mystery, and the legitimacy of the volunteers is also a valid question. Wins over MAC foes Ball State and Akron revealed little about their fortitude, and an overtime win in Pittsburgh came as the Panthers dealt with the injuries of their top two quarterbacks. This meeting once helped determine the SEC East winner on an annual basis. Number 1 Georgia is now the undisputed favorite in the division, but this encounter nonetheless represents a fascinating top-20 battle between longtime rivals.

florida vs. Tennessee: must know

Anthony Richardson’s performance: Which version of Florida appears depends a lot on which version of Anthony Richardson appears. Florida’s redshirt sophomore quarterback is 24 of 53 for 255 yards with four interceptions and no touchdown passes in the last two games. However, in the Utah win, he put the Gators on his back by repeatedly delivering in clutch moments on the ground and through the air. When Richardson is near his best, Florida’s improve dramatically.

The Tennessee Defense: After finishing 99th nationally in overall defense last season, the volunteers seem to have improved this season. They currently rank 51st nationally in total defense, but that could be a mirage. While Pitt was held at 415 yards in an overtime win during Week 2 seemed to mark progress, the Panthers lost starting quarterback Kedon Slovis to injury just before halftime, and backup Nick Patti played through injury in the second half. A strong display here would go a long way in legitimizing the signs of progress seen defensively for the Vols.

Checker Neyland: Tennessee encourages its fans to use “Checker Neyland” for the game, assigning fans to wear orange or white based on their section. While the pattern created in the stadium makes for an impressive image, Tennessee’s history when Neyland is checkered is well… checkered. Checker Neyland’s match last season was an infamous loss for Ole Miss when play was interrupted after fans threw items onto the field. Tennessee is 1-1 against Florida in Checker Neyland games, but only 1-4 since the tradition started in 2014.

Featured game | Tennessee Volunteers vs Florida Gators

Florida has won 16 of the last 17 games in this series, and the Volunteers have won this game by more than 10 points only once in the past 30 years. History aside, Tennessee’s status as a double-digit favorite seems to overstate the win against a stumbling Pitt team and underestimate Florida’s win over Utah. The Gators have been looking bad for the past two weeks, but there’s enough talent on the roster — as evidenced by that win over the Utes — to keep it close against a Tennessee program that is in its rebuilding rather than a No. 11 ranking might suggest. Forecast: Florida +10.5
