How to connect your Spotify account to Discord

Ever wondered why your Discord friends have that “Listening to Spotify” section in their profile when you don’t? Maybe you want to listen to a song with your friends, but you don’t know how to connect your Spotify account with Discord.

Whatever the reason, integrating Spotify with Discord is always a good step. It allows you to show your Spotify activity on your profile by showing what song you are currently listening to. And if you have Spotify Premium, you can even listen to your favorite songs with your friends using the Listen-in feature.

Here’s how to connect Spotify to Discord.

Why connect Spotify to Discord?

With your Discord and Spotify accounts linked:

  1. You can share your real-time Spotify activity with your friends
  2. Your friends can view and listen to the song you are currently listening to
  3. With the Listen-in feature, you can organize a party and listen to music with your friends (requires at least one Spotify Premium account)

Another benefit of linking your Spotify and Discord accounts is that Spotify automatically pauses playback when:

  1. You’ve been sending audio to a voice channel for over 30 seconds
  2. You share your screen or livestream

Connect Spotify to Discord on a PC

Integrating your Spotify account with Discord on a PC is easy. The process is more or less the same for both the Discord desktop client and the web version.

To get started, log into Discord and click the User Settings option (the gear icon) next to your username, in the lower-left corner.

Then switch to the Connections tab. In the list of apps, click the Spotify logo to continue. A browser window will open and prompt you to sign in to your Spotify account. Enter the login details and press Login continue. You can even use your Google or Facebook account to login.

After authentication, Spotify will display the information that Discord can access once you approve the integration. If you’re okay with it, click Agree. Once done, you can go back to Discord to find your Spotify account linked.

At first glance, you will see two toggle buttons labeled “Show on profile” and “Show Spotify as your statusThe former will display a link to your Spotify account on your Discord profile, and the latter will add the “Listen to Spotify” section to your profile. Adjust the options to suit your preferences.

Disconnect Spotify from Discord on a PC

To unlink your Spotify account from Discord, all you need to do is go to the Connections section and click the cross icon (X) next to Spotify. Discord will confirm if you want to remove the app integration. When you are sure of your decision, click Disconnect continue.

Connect Spotify to Discord using the smartphone app

If you’re not using Discord on your desktop, don’t worry, as Discord also allows you to connect your Spotify account to the mobile app. Here’s how to do it:

  1. In the bottom menu bar, tap your profile picture (far right).
  2. Tap Connections and select To add from the top right corner.
  3. Choose from the list of available options Spotify and open the link with a web browser.
  4. If you’re already signed in to Spotify, Discord will establish the connection in seconds. If not, you must log in to your account.
  5. As with the desktop version, you will find two different settings to display the Spotify account and your Spotify activity on your profile.

Removing the Discord Spotify App Integration

To unlink Spotify and Discord using the smartphone app, tap the Crotch icon next to the Spotify integration list and select Disconnect.

To change the Spotify account connected to Discord, you just need to delete the existing integration and create a new one with a different account.
