DC Comics has officially announced “The Joker Year One,” a story that promises to reveal important secrets about the Clown Prince of Crime, especially since it takes place after the events of the controversial and iconic Killing joke history.

DC Comics has announced “The Joker Year One”, a new arc for the bat Man title to be published weekly in February 2024. By Chip Zdarsky, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, Andrea Sorrentino, Alejandro Sánchez and Dave Stewart, this story will unfold over three issues: bat Man #142-144. The story begins early in the Joker’s history with Batman and will heavily feature the Red Hood gang, hinting at important revelations about the Joker’s history with the gang. The Joker’s secret origins are about to be revealed

“The Joker Year One” follows immediately after the current one bat Man story, “Mindbomb”, by Zdarsky, Jorge Jiménez, Tomeu Morey and Clayton Cowles, which heavily features the Joker. Following the events of “Gotham War”, Batman has been isolated from the Bat-Family and struggles to combat the influence of the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh. Under these conditions, the Joker begins to taunt Batman with clues to his whereabouts, leading to another confrontation between the two iconic figures. “Mindbomb” will lead directly into “The Joker Year One,” laying the groundwork for a major new Joker story in which “The secrets of pop culture’s greatest villain are revealed.” according to DC.

Despite being one of the most praised and disturbing villains in pop culture (not to mention comics), the Joker’s true origins are shrouded in secrecy. Between his mysterious true identity and the chaos of having multiple Jokers running around the DC Universe, it’s difficult to pin down both the Joker’s true nature and his true motivations. That hasn’t stopped creative teams from trying to do so, and there have been a number of iconic Joker stories, from the controversial yet iconic The killer joke to the most recent three wild cards.

Given the critical success of the current bat Man Going forward, “The Joker Year One” will likely join the ranks of these important stories, hopefully fulfilling its promises of “secrets revealed” along the way. Despite being about the past, this story will likely also have important consequences for Batman’s future, as well as the Joker’s.
