Nikola CEO tells judges he was concerned about founder Trevor Milton’s exaggerations

Nikola Corp. CEO Mark Russell told a federal jury in New York on Monday that he was concerned about joining the electric truck company because he believed its founder, Trevor Milton, “tended to exaggerate in public statements. .”

Witnesses in mr. Milton’s securities fraud trial, Mr. Russell said that before coming on board as Nikola’s president in 2019, he and Mr. Milton reached an agreement that Mr. Russell would become the chief executive officer if Nikola became a publicly traded company. Mr. Russell said he was seeking the settlement because the CEO’s statements as head of a publicly traded company had to be accurate.
