Worker walloped with pizza peel during restaurant fightNEWS
A Long Island pizzaiolo has been arrested after he walloped his co-worker with a pizza peel in a heated fight at the shop earlier this week, police said.
John Vano, 50, and the 42-year-old victim got into a spat around 8:15 p.m. Saturday inside La Piazza on Merrick Road near Frankel Boulevard in Merrick, according to Nassau County P
An irate Valo struck his colleague in the back of the head with the peel, which is used to move pies in and out of the oven, according to the criminal complaint.
After the victim fell to the floor, Vano punched him in the face, according to the court document.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for substantial pain and a cut on his lip.
Vano turned himself in to Nassau County Police the next day and was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said.
He was freed by Judge Joseph Nocella during his arraignment earlier this week, according to the Nassau County DA’s Office.
Vano, of Franklin Square, is due back in court on Monday.
